Alex Magaisa

Dr Magaisa studied law at the University of Zimbabwe (LLB) and the University of Warwick (LLM & PhD) in Great Britain. He is a registered legal practitioner admitted to practice law in Zimbabwe. Dr Magaisa has worked at the University Warwick, the University of Nottingham and is presently based at Kent Law School, the University of Kent. His main area of teaching and research is company and financial services law.

Dr Magaisa has also worked in financial services regulation, having spent three years at the Jersey Financial Services Commission (JFSC), the financial services regulator in Jersey, the international finance centre based in the Channel Islands. Magaisa is also known for his political and social commentary work on issues affecting Zimbabwe and has been a columnist for a leading independent newspapers, among them The Zimbabwe Standard, The Daily News and Newzimbabwe.com.

Dr Magaisa is passionate about African development and believes institutional development is a key part of this process. He is a keen advocate for the realisation of the potential and opportunities presented by the African Diaspora for the continent’s development.
