Background & History

A group of Zimbabweans from around the world gathered at Franscchoek in Cape Town, South Africa on 3-4 December 2009. This was a roundtable discussion with the theme: “Engaging the Diaspora towards Zimbabwe’s economic reconstruction”.

This conference was attended by representatives from government, business and civil society. It was addressed by experts in their fields who explored ways of harnessing the Zimbabwean Diaspora for national development.  The conference was facilitated and hosted by the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR), in conjunction with a group of Zimbabweans interested in their country’s development and the potential role of the Diaspora.
